South Africa: Ferro Alloy Exports Down by 16% M-o-M in Oct’17

According to the South African customs, the country has witnessed a substantial decrease of 16% M-o-M in its Ferro Alloy exports.

In Oct’17, South Africa exported a total of 2.76 MnT Ferro Alloys, Manganese Ore and Chrome Ore against 3.29 MnT in Sep’17. However, on yearly basis, there has been a substantial increase of 19% Y-o-Y in its export volume which stood at 2.32 MnT in Oct’16.

Manganese Ore occupied the major volume of South African exports at 1.33 MnT in Oct’17, registering a substantial decrease of 19% M-o-M. However, Ferro Chrome exports witnessed a marginal decrease of 7% M-o-M in Oct’17. While, Chrome Ore exports stood at 1.13 MnT in Oct’17, witnessing a fall of 17% M-o-M against Sep’17. While Silico Manganese export by South Africa remained almost negligible in Oct’17.

China remains the largest importer of South African Ferro Alloys and Ores at 1.41 MnT in Oct’17, recording a decrease of 20% against 1.77 MnT in Sep’17. In Oct’17, Mozambique was the second largest importer of South African Ferroalloys (including Manganese Ore and Chrome Ore) at 0.43 MnT while India, being the third largest importer, imported 0.17 MnT.
