Singareni Coal Production witness Sharp Decrease

Incessant rain in the Telangana region over the last few days has hampered coal production in the Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) coalfield spread over Karimngar, Adilabad, Khammam and Warangal districts.

According to Sugunakar Reddy, chief general manager of Ramagundam division, SCCL, the total coal output in the 11 divisions of the SCCL by July end was about 13.59 Mnt against the targeted 15 MnT. The coal production by 2012 July end was about 15.4 MnT.

The shortfall of nearly 1.5 MnT of coal so far this year has adversely affected the production schedules of coal based industries like power generation companies, cement factories and ceramic and other small-scale units.

In view of the torrential rain in June and July (36.35 cm) in the 11 SCCL divisions in four districts, nearly 20 days' coal production was disrupted in the open-cast mines. Incidentally, despite the heavy rainfall, the Kothagudem division in Khammam district and the third division of Ramagundam in Karimangar district exceeded the production targets.

Illandu, Manuguru, Adryala, Bhoopalapalli, Ramagundam 1 & 2, Bellampalli Mandamarri and Srirampur divisions could not reach the set production targets.
