SAIL’s Bhilai Steel Plant to cut Steel Output – Sources

Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) has decided to temporarily reduce production and idle several operations at its Bhilai Steel Plant, SteelMint learn from reliable sources.

In the recent meeting held at CEO’s office, following decisions were taken
— Shut down of wire rod mill, merchant mill and the plate mill in phases.
— Blast furnace 6 and 7 will shut shown by 27th March
— Blast furnace 1 and 8 will remain operational with reduced output.

Sources also report short supply of iron ore due to logistics constrain. It is unclear how long will the idle last on concerns of coronavirus. SAIL’s BSP produced about  3.673 MnT saleable steel during FY19.

Status of other steel plants owned by SAIL are yet to be decided.
