State-owned steel major SAIL has rolled out plain steel wire rods of SAE 1008 grade for the first time from its Bhilai Steel Plant’s (BSP’s) wire rod mill, the steelmaker posted on Twitter. These wire rods were produced through the CCS route from billet cast at BSP’s steel melting shop 3 (SMS 3). A total of 2,700 t of wire rods was flagged off on 9 Jun’21 for export to Nepal, which will be used for making GI wires by Nepal’s wire drawing units for arresting landslides in the hilly terrains of the Himalayan Kingdom.
