Russian Billet Export Analysis, September 2017

Russia, world’s largest exporter of billet from CIS nations and has been actively involved in the exporters market. According to the fresh released data by Russia’s custom, billet exports from the nation gradually decline by 3% M-o-M & 10% Y-o-Y in Sep 2017.

According to customs, the nation has reported a downfall of 2.75% M-o-M & exported about 1.06 MnT Billet in Sep’17 against 1.09 MnT in Aug’17. In line on yearly basis exports decline by 10.19% against 1.18 MnT in Sep’16

In the month of Sep’17, Taiwan has imported approximately 30% (0.31 MnT) Billet from Russia.

Further, in the first 9 months of CY17 (Jan-Sep’17), Billet exports declined marginally by 4.30% to 10.44 MnT against 10.91 MnT in same preceding CY16.

Prior to this, in CY 2016 (Jan-Dec) the Billet export was around 15.16 MnT & in CY 2015 at 14.64 MnT.

Country wise exports:

The largest importer of Russian Billet during Sep’17 was Taiwan (0.31 MnT), followed by Belgium (0.13 MnT), Turkey (0.12 MnT) & Mexico (0.11 MnT).

In the total Billet exports during CY 2017 (Jan-Sep), the favorable export destination of Russian originated Billet was – Taiwan (22.02%), Turkey (16.91%), Mexico (13.85%), Belgium (11.60%) & Egypt (5.56%).

Quaterly Analysis

As per the SteelMint’s Statistics report, exports for Billet during Q2 FY18 (Jul-Sept’17) at 3.25 MnT, decline by 2.40% Q-o-Q when it compared with Q1 FY18 (Apr-Jun’17) at 3.33 MnT. Similarly, on yearly premises the exports slumped to 7.40% in Q2 FY18 against Q2 FY17 at 3.51 MnT.

Further it was also noticed on half yearly calculations the exports fell by 9.24% to 6.58 MnT in H1 FY18 compared with 7.25 MnT in H1 FY17.

In context to export prices, the export offers of 150*150 IS 2830 grade billet are currently at USD 450-460/MT FoB India, 125*125 3SP at USD 455-465/MT FoB Ukraine & 125*125 are at USD 480/MT CNF Turkey.
