According to latest customs data, Russian flat steel exports which includes (7208- HR coils/Plates, 7209 – CR coils, 7210, 7212 GP/GC and 7225 electrical sheets) witness marginal fall of 2% in CY’18 to 9.07 MnT in comparison with 9.23 MnT in CY’17.
Russian flat steel volumes decline since the major importer, Turkey witnesses sharp depreciation in currency Lira which leads to financial insolvency and significant decline in steel prices. Thus Russian steel mills focus on domestic shipments over exports to global market.

Similarly on yearly basis nation’s flat steel exports moved up by 6% to 0.82 MnT in Dec’18 against 0.77 MnT in Dec’17.
On M-o-M basis export ascends by 6% in Dec’18 against 0.77 MnT in Nov’18.
However in second half of CY18 amid protectionist measures from USA and Europe Russian mills explored export options to Asian markets in second half of CY18.

Country-wise Russia Flat Steel Exports in CY’18- Turkey being the major importer procured 2.44 MnT and accounted for 27% of share in Russian flat steel exports in CY’18.
Second major importer was Belarus with 7.38% share and stood at 0.67 MnT in CY’18.
Other major importers included Poland (7.16%) at 0.65 MnT, Vietnam (6%) at 0.59 MnT, Uzbekistan (5%) 0.46 and Latvia (4.74%) at 0.43 in CY’18.
