Richards Bay Coal Terminal (RBCT), is the largest coal export facility in South Africa, handling more than 90% of the country’s total coal exports.
According to the data maintained by CoalMint Research, RBCT’s monthly coal exports have attained the highest value in Jul’17 during CY17. Exports in Jul’17 had increased 11% M-o-M to 7.21 MnT, compared with 6.48 MnT in Jun’17.
Total coal export from RBCT was recorded at 44.46 MnT during Jan’17-Jul’17.
Major Coal Importers:
India remained the major coal importer from RBCT during the month followed by Pakistan, Netherlands, Maurities and Gibraltar.
Among the top 5 major coal importers, only India has registered decline in Coal imports during Jul’17. Indian Coal imports has fallen 23% M-o-M to 2.2 MnT in Jul’17 compared with 2.84 MnT in Jun’17.
Pakistan was the second-largest coal importer in Jul’17, whose coal imports increased 70% M-o-M to 0.73 MnT.
South African Coal Prices:
South African coal prices have surged in recent weeks, driven by high Australian coal prices. As the South African coal index is affected strong paper trading in Newcastle coal index.
Of late, Supply disruption in Australia due to strike in Hunger Valley coalmines had increased thermal coal prices there, which have pulled South African Index API-4 to USD 85.25 this week.
Spot Offers for 55000 NAR coal was assessed at USD 76/MT, FoB Richards Bay and 4800 NAR coal was offered at USD 62/MT, FoB Richards Bay this week.
