Poland monthly coal exports have increased by 10% in Sep’16. In contrast, Yearly exports have fallen by 3% as compared to Sep’15.
Poland, the second largest coal miners in Europe, has exported 1.58 MnT coal in Sep’16. The country’s exports have increased on monthly basis. However, yearly exports have fallen by 3% which was at 1.63 MnT in Sep’15. As per Poland Customs data.
Out of the total exports, the country shipped more than 30% Coke to different destinations and rest quantity comprises Coking coal, Bituminous, Pet coke and other grades.
In the month of Sep’16, out of the total exports, the country has delivered 0.59 MnT Coke, 0.23 MnT Coking coal and about 0.76 MnT other grades.

Quantity in MnT
Bituminous Coal and Lignite are majorly used in Power generation in Poland. Hence, these fuels are not exporting by the country. While other grades of Coal such as Coking and Coke are mainly exported.
In the first nine months of 2016 (Jan’16-Sep’16), the coal exports have fallen by 2% to 12.39 MnT, compared with 12.58 MnT in the same period in 2015.
Major Importing countries in Sep’16
Germany, the major coal export destination from Poland, received about 0.33 MnT coal in Sep’16 with a decrease by 8% M-o-M compared with Sep’16, also exports fell down by 35% Y-o-Y.
Czech Republic, the second-largest coal receiver, imported 0.31 MnT coal in Sep’16 fell by 3% M-o-M. However, Yearly imports have increased by 15% Y-o-Y.
Germany and Czech Republic together received more than 40% of the total coal exported from Poland in Sep’16.
Austria, the third largest coal importer, received around 0.13 MnT coal during the month, down by more than 6% M-o-M. Besides, imports have fell short by 3% Y-o-Y.
