Germany Flat Steel Imports Up 9% in Sept’16

According to the recent customs data released, world’s third largest steel importer – Germany imported 1.02 MnT flat steel in Sept’16. On monthly premises, country’s flat steel imports have moved up by 9% as the same stood at 0.94 MnT in Aug’16.

However on Y-o-Y basis, Germany flat steel imports declined 9% compared to 1.12 MnT in Sept’15.

From Jan’16-Sept’16 Germany imported 9.11 MnT flat steel, compared to 9.15 MnT in the same period last year.

Grade-wise Germany flat steel imports : Aug’16 vs Sept’16

HR coils/plates imports to Germany moved up 6% M-o-M to 0.36 MnT in Sept’16. Imports of CR coils/plates to Germany fell 10% M-o-M to 0.09 MnT in Sept’16.

Germany’s Top 5 Flat Steel Import Markets – 

The top source countries for Germany’s flat steel imports comprise of Belgium, Netherlands, Austria, France and Italy. Belgium’s flat steel imports from Germany increased 2% M-o-M from 0.287 MnT in Aug’16 to 0.294 MnT in Sept’16.

Germany’s flat steel imports by other major nations in Sept’16 remained as follows: Netherlands (0.15 MnT), Austria (0.13 MnT) and France (0.13 MnT).

Note: Flat steel export figures include HS codes – 7208 (HR), 7209 (CR), 7225 (electrical sheet), 7210 and 7212 (galvanized coated flat products)
