Philippines Billet Imports Rise 130% in August 2017

As per recent data released by Philippines customs it is observed that the billet Imports rise sharply by 130% M-o-M & 170% on yearly basis  in Aug’17.

The nation has imported about 160,000 MT Billet in August 2017 against 70,000 MT in July 2017, surge by 130% on monthly premises. During Aug’17, Vietnam has exported approximately 44% billet (70,000 MT) to the nation

Further, on Y-o-Y in August 2017 imports registered a sharp gain of 170% against 60,000 MT in August 2016. In line, on yearly basis, in first 8 months of CY17 (Jan-Aug), the imports up by 36.48% to 1.01 MnT against same preceding last year at 0.74 MnT.

Country wise:

During August 2017, the largest exporter of Billet to Philippines was Vietnam – 70,000 MT, Russia – 50,000 MT & India at 20,000 MT.

Similarly, in the total billet imports during 2017 (Jan-Aug’17), Russia (39.54%) remains the largest exporter of billet to Philippines, followed by Vietnam (28.03%), Thailand (9.60%), Japan (7.81%), China (7.18%) & India (5.30%)

In context to export prices, the export offers of 150*150 IS 2830 grade billet are currently at USD 485-495/MT FoB India & 150*150, Q235 are at USD 550-560/MT FoB China.
