Peru’s copper production has dropped y-o-y in May, 2022, as per the base metals data released by the Peruvian Ministry of Energy and Mines (MEM) for May, 2022.
Copper production falls 11% y-o-y in May
According to the data released by MEM, Peru has registered an 11.2% drop in copper production to 174,258 tonnes (t) in May, as against 196,270 t in May 2021.
On a m-o-m basis, production has inched up 2.4% , as against 170,168 t in April 2022.
Production between January-May, 2022 touched 898,175 t, a negligible dip of 0.3% as compared to 900,800 t in the same period last year.
The reason behind the production fall is the suspension of operations at Las Bambas mine between April to June.
Zinc production falls 18% y-o-y in May
Peru has registered a 17.9% drop in zinc production to 117,088 t in May 2022, as against 142,690 t in May 2021.
On a m-o-m basis, zinc production grew 18.3% as against 98,938 t in April 2022.
Production between January-May, 2022 was at 560,539 t, a decrease of 15.44% as compared to 662,962 t in the same period last year.
Lead production falls 16% y-o-y in May
Peru’s lead production dropped 15.9% to 19,173 t in May 2022, as against 22,796 t in May 2021.
The country also saw a m-o-m 8.47% drop in lead production as against 20,948 t in April 2022.
Production between January-May, 2022 was at 101,789 t, a decrease of 6.44% as compared to 108,802 t in the same period last year.
