China’s power consumption is expected to rise by 7% y-o-y in the second half of 2022, taking the whole-year growth to 5-6%, China Electricity Council said in a report last week. Adequate thermal coal supply and higher precipitation for hydropower generation is supporting China’s power demand for the rest of the year. Coal stocks held by major power plants are at 96 mnt as on June 30, sufficient for 22 days.
