M.B.Shah, the Chairman of the Shah Commission inquiring into the illegal mining
in state has said that the commission will continue with the enquiry despite
the petition at the Delhi high Court by Federation of Indian Mineral Industries
(FIMI). In its petition FIMI has complained that the commission is not
enquiring as per the commissions of inquiry act and has requested the honourable court for quashing of the inquiry proceedings.
Justice Shah arrived Bhubaneswar this afternoon and the hearing is scheduled to start
at 4 pm at the state guest house. As per the sources, hearing will be done for
13 mining companies including Indrani Patnaik mines, D.R.Pattnaik mines, K.J.S.Ahluwalia
mines, Serajuddin mines, Essel mining and Industries, Tata Steel, OMC. The hearing
process will be held twice a day and will continue till 2nd of
March. The hearing schedule may be extended if required.
On
issue of presenting the final report, Justice Shah said that, “it will take some
more time.â€Â
Before the visit, the panel had asked 186 iron
ore and manganese miners of the state to submit data regarding status of their
leases, clearances, mineral sales and raising of ore. They were asked to submit
their views regarding data provided by the state government and Indian Bureau
of Mines (IBM).
“Yes! We have received the required information
from the state government, but yet to get the data from the miners that we have
asked,†said U.V.Singh, senior member of the commission and PCCF of Karnataka.
On behalf of the miners, Supreme Court advocate
Abhishek Manu Singhvi will present his views before Justice Shah.
