State based units to get minerals on priority basis but without 50% price concession
Bhubaneswar: The ministerial committee on raw material supply to state based industries has submitted its report to the Chief Minister Naveen Pattnaik on Thursday.
The 100 page report will now be sent to the state cabinet for approval.
According to reliable sources, the panel headed by Finance Minister Prasanna Acharya has given several important recommendations to the state government for seamless supply of raw material to state based industries.
It has recommended that the local industries should get raw material on priority basis and minerals can be exported after catering the local industry needs.
This criteria should be applicable to all the private miners and the state owned Odisha Mining Corporation (OMC).
Before finalizing the report the panel had asked the Directorate of Mines and Directorate of Geology to submit a report on the production, availability and consumption of minerals in the state.
Accordingly the two had submitted a 30 page report before the ministerial panel on the said issues.
In its report the committee has turned down the demand of the state based industries for supply of raw material in 50% discount of the market rate.
However, the panel has proposed the government to form a price-committee to determine on which rate the state based-industrial units should get raw-material.
As per the proposal the committee would have members like OMC CMD, Director of Mines and a senior official from the Directorate of Geology.
There would be a separate committee which would determine the demand-supply scenario of raw-materials (minerals) in the state and would derive a formula for distribution of the available raw-material in the state.
The miners including OMC and private miners would give priority for supply of raw material to state based industries and after fulfilling the state requirement minerals can be supplied to the other states and be exported.
