Odisha Iron Ore Production at 8.3 MnT in May’16

Odisha’s iron ore production has fallen by 5% M-o-M in May’16.

Iron ore production in India’s largest iron ore producing state – Odisha was recorded at 8.32 MnT in May’16 against to 8.75 MnT in Apr’16. On yearly premises (i.e. compared to May’15), production figures are up by 54%.

Rungta Mines’ iron ore production was up by 12% M-o-M and was recorded at 2.35 MnT in May’16. Odisha’s 2nd major merchant iron ore producer- Serajuddin Mines production stood at 0.96 MnT. Other major merchant iron ore producers were KJS Ahluwalia (0.44 MnT), AMTC (0.4 MnT) and Indrani Patnaik (0.37 MnT).

State govt. controlled PSU – OMC registered fall of 13% M-o-M in its iron ore production. Production was recorded at 0.54 MnT in May’16 compared to 0.62 MnT in Apr’16.

Captive iron ore production of major producers remained as follows: Tata Steel – 1.01 MnT and SAIL – 0.59 MnT.

In first two months of this fiscal, Odisha’s iron ore production stood at 17.07 MnT.

Rising iron ore production, falling dispatches

In May’16, iron ore production of Odisha mines (excluding captive production of SAIL & Tata Steel) was recorded at 6.72 MnT. On the other hand dispatches in the same month stood at 5.52 MnT (excluding captive iron ore movement of SAIL & Tata Steel).

Rising production and comparatively lesser dispatches have put domestic prices under pressure. Merchant miners are seen giving quantity discounts and going for price cuts.
