Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government is likely to be the first state to put mining blocks on auction after the enforcement of the new MMDR act. The government of India has indicated that Odisha is preparing to auction about 16 mining blocks by the end of October this year.
“Odisha government has identified 16 mining blocks for auction and we are hopeful that the blocks will be put for auction” said Balvendar Kumar, union mines secretary after his meeting with the Odisha Chief Secretary G.C.Pati.
According to sources majority of the 16 identified blocks are iron ore and Manganese mines.
The Odisha Chief secretary Mr. Pati said that the state government has already started the auction process as per the new MMDR act. So far 16 blocks has been identified for auction and DGPS survey is been carried out in these blocks. The survey is expected to be completed by September this year and after completion of the other ancillary works including preparation of the bid document we are hopeful that the auction will be held on by October end.
