Non-coking Coal Imports to India Assessed at 11.6 MnT in Aug’15

Major downfall in coking coal imports in India in Aug’15; SteeMint assessed, it is lowest since last seventeen months.

According to Steelmint’s latest assessment, non-coking import to India has fallen by about 24% in Aug’15 M-o-M and by about 23% Y-oY. The country imported 11.6 MnT of non-coking coal in Aug’15 against 15.2 MnT in July’15.

Leading Exporters of Non-Coking Coal in Aug’15

Indonesia and South Africa lead imports to India in August. Indonesia exported about 8 MnT of non-coking coal in Aug’15, registering a decline of about 30% against the previous month. South Africa also registered decline of about 58% in imports to India against July’15 and imported about 2.3 MnT of non-coking coal in Aug’15.

Adani Power imported about 2.1 MnT of non-coking coal in the month against 1.8 MnT in July’15 registering a growth in import by 14% and was top importer for the month. Mundra Port in WCI received highest quantity of imported non-coking coal among all major Indian ports and was assessed at 2.8 MnT for Aug’15.

Continuously rising domestic production can be considered as one of the significant factor for lowered imports. It should be noted that CIL produced about 36.2 MnT of coal in Aug’15 registering a growth of about 5% Y-o-Y.
