NMDC’s Iron ore supply to Chhattisgarh based Sponge/Steel units remain firm in Dec’14 against Nov’14. According to data on Iron ore movement through railways tracked by SteelMint, it was observed that 87 rakes were supplied in the month of December against 89 in November from NMDC’s Chhattisgarh (Bailadila) mines. Each rake carries 3,900 MT Iron ore.
Iron ore supply from Odisha remained critical till December but expected to improve in coming months owing to rising production in Odisha.
“We prefer buying Iron ore from Odisha because of quality and price. But, availability was an issue, so we had to buy from NMDC. Current landed cost of Fe63% Iron fines from Odisha is about INR 4,800-5,000/MT and about INR 5,200-5,300/MTfrom Chhattisgarh (all inclusive of royalty & taxes),” said a Pellet manufacturer based in Raipur.
