India’s largest iron ore producer, NMDC is conducting an auction for 20,000 MT iron ore pellets for Fe: 64 to 64.5% on 30 Mar’17 from its Donimalai pellet plant based in Karnataka. The material is offered in 20 lots of 1,000 MT each.
This is second time, NMDC offering pellets from its Karnataka plant. The first pellet auction was conducted on 15 Nov’16 of total quantity 12,000 MT in 12 lots of 1,000 MT each.
According to market sources report to SteelMint, last auction had received good response. Base price of the pellet was around INR 5,219/MT. It was heard from sources that outside Karnataka based parties seemed interested in auction and bids went up by INR 50/MT and almost entire quantity offered was sold.
In the current auction, BF grade pellet offered comprises of size ranging from 6-16 mm with silica content between 4 to 4.5%, alumina content less than 3% and tumbler index of 95%.
NMDC has a pellet plant with an installed capacity of 1.2 MnT pa at Donimalai in Karnataka as a part of its beneficiation programme. Apart from this, it has also set up a beneficiation plant of 1.8 MnT pa in Karnataka.
