NMDC, which has planned to set up a 4 MnT pa Iron ore processing plant in Chhattisgarh, has applied for forest land diversion.
Bhubaneswar: Public sector miner, NMDC is planning to set up a 4 MnT pa Iron ore processing (slime beneficiation) plant at Bailadila Iron ore mines, Bacheli complex in Chhattisgarh with an investment of INR 10.95 billion. The company has already applied for diversion of forest land of 33 hectares to the union government.
The project is a part of NMDC’s capacity expansion plan in Bailadila mines at Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh. The company has already applied for environment clearance for the project. The project would be set up in two phases of 2 MnT pa each.
Current level of production in Bailadila sector is 9.8 MnT pa of lump/CLO and 15.9 MnT pa of fines including slimes. With commissioning of Bailadila Dep-11b and implementation of improvement schemes in the existing operating mines of Bailadila sector, NMDC is eying to increase the production level to 14.8 MnT pa lump and 21.2 MnT pa fines by the end of current financial year.
Subsequently, the company is also developing Bailadila Dep-13 and Dep-4 in joint venture with Chhattishgarh Mineral Development Corporation (CMDC) and after commencing these new mines, the production would be augmented to 20.9 MnT pa lump and 30.1 MnT pa fines including slimes.
Thus, the company witnesses a huge gap in existing evacuation capacity at Bailadila sector and quantity of Iron ore to be produced after commissioning of these new mines.
As per an estimate, about 21 MnT of Iron ore slimes will be created from Bailadila complex including 10.4 MnT from tailing dams of Bacheli complex and 10.9 MnT from new Bailadila Dep-13 and Dep-4 mines. After beneficiation, the same can be used for Pellet making of suitable grade.
