Nepal Rebar Prices Rise on Higher Input Costs, Supply Constraints

  • Rebar prices gain NPR 500/t w-o-w to NPR 86,500/t
  • Higher billet costs and supply constraints support prices

Nepal’s rebar prices increased by NPR 500/t w-o-w to NPR 86,500/t for cash transactions, while bank-guarantee deals were assessed at NPR 84,500-88,500/t.

The price increase was supported by higher raw material and billet costs, along with good market demand. Sponge iron prices rose by $3/t w-o-w to around $323/t CPT Raxaul, while billet prices increased by $12/t w-o-w to around $496/t CNF Raxaul, providing additional cost-side support to finished steel prices. Improved power availability supported production at some mills, although logistical disruptions amid the monsoon and power-related issues continued to affect material movement and market supply.

Meanwhile, IF-EAF wire rod prices increased by $5/t w-o-w to around $575/t CNF Raxaul, reflecting firmer regional pricing.

Outlook: Nepal’s rebar prices are likely to remain firm in the near term, supported by higher input costs, good demand and constrained supply. However, ongoing monsoon-related logistical disruptions and power issues may limit the scope for a sharp price increase.
