Nepal: Rebar prices rise on firmer Indian market, higher input costs

  • Indian Market Strength and Higher Input Costs Support Nepal Rebar
  • Moderate Demand and Flood Disruptions Limit Upside

Nepal’s rebar prices continued to trend upward, increasing by NPR 4,000/t w-o-w to NPR 80,000/t for cash transactions, while bank-guarantee deals were assessed at NPR 80,000-82,000/t.

The price increase was supported by firmer steel prices in the Indian market, along with higher raw material costs. Billet prices also increased providing additional cost-side support to finished steel prices. Market demand remained moderate, while supply and movement of material were affected by logistical disruptions caused by flooding in parts of Nepal. Despite these challenges, firmer input costs and support from the Indian market kept the overall price trend positive.

Meanwhile, IF-EAF wire rod prices rose by $15/t w-o-w to around $540/t CNF Raxaul. Billet prices also increased by $2/t w-o-w to around $457/t CNF Raxaul.

Outlook: Nepal’s rebar prices are likely to remain firm in the near term, supported by higher Indian steel prices and increased raw material costs. However, moderate demand and ongoing flood-related logistical disruptions may limit the scope for a sharp price increase.
