Mongolia’s coal production was down by 18% m-o-m to 2.03 mnt in Jan’22, customs data showed. Rising Covid cases and subsequent restrictions pulled down the country’s coal output. On a y-o-y basis, the same fell by a whopping 56%. Coal demand from China continued to remain strong as power utilities raised purchases ahead of the Winter Olympics. China comprised the highest share of imports from Mongolia last month at 0.58 mnt, CoalMint data showed.
