India:Met Coke Imports Down 13.3% in July’17 M-o-M

Met Coke imports in India shrunk 13.3% in July’17 over that in the previous month, an analysis on the import data collected by CoalMint Research shows.

In July’17, Met Coke imports in India were at around 0.39 MnT, lower than the imports of around 0.45 MnT in Jun’17.

On a year-on-year comparison, the imports during the month under consideration were up by around 69.6% against the imports of 0.23 MnT in July’16.

The reason for the decline in the imports during July’17 could be attributed to the higher prices of Met Coke and also to the seasonal effect of buyers lessening purchases during the monsoon season. At the same time, high prices had restricted buyers from purchasing in excess of their immediate requirement.

A country-wise break-up shows that imports during the month went up from the countries other than China and Russia. As a result of higher prices in China, buyers had preferred to lower imports from the country.
