MCL rolls over same charges for coal transportation

Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd (MCL), the mining arm of CIL operating in Odisha, has kept surface transportation charge unchanged which it imposes on customers for transporting coal from mines to loading points.

The cost varied upon distance covered upon coal transportation is primarily revised every six months, with the latest revision applicable from 1 Feb ’21.

The transportation charges (STC) for the distance slab of 0-3 km remains INR 43/MT, while, the rates are gradually raised with the increase in span of transportation. In case, where coal is transported more than 20 km, these charges are payable at actual on lead basis.

The company yields minute amount of revenue from STC whereas bulk chunk is generated from sales of coal. In the FY’ 20, sum of INR 989.7 Crore was garnered through this levy which accounted only 6% of the total revenue from operations.
