Steel maker’s iron ore imports has increased sharply in last two months while sourcing from NMDC (C.G.) has been declining.
JSW Steel is India’s largest steel maker with crude steel production of 15.8 MnT in FY’17. JSW Steel the steel maker has increased marginally its iron ore sourcing by 6% M-o-M to 2.70 MnT in Nov’17 against 2.56 MnT in Oct’17.
So far in FY18, (Apr-Nov’17) JSW Steel sourced 20.9 MnT iron ore and its crude steel output was recorded at 10.57 MnT in the same time frame.
Sourcing from NMDC (C.G.) declined significantly in last two months – JSW Steel (Dolvi) procured 7 rakes from NMDC Chhattisgarh mines in Nov’17 against 17 rakes in Oct’17 down by 59% M-o-M. After the K-K railway line was damaged in the rains in October’17, out side state based units were facing difficulty in sourcing iron ore from NMDC’s mines.
JSW Steel imported iron ore from Australia and Brazil – JSW India’s major steel maker has imported 0.34 MnT iron ore from Brazil and Australia in Nov’17 and turned out to be the largest importer in Nov’17. Out of 0.34 MnT iron ore imported by JSW Steel in Nov’17, 0.17 MnT low grade iron ore fines was imported from Australia at Krishnapatnam port and remaining 0.17 MnT iron ore was imported from Brazil at Jaigarh port for its Dolvi plant.
Procurement from Karnataka up by18% in Nov’17 – JSW Steel procurement increased by 18% M-o-M to 1.73 MnT iron ore from Karnataka e-auctions in Nov’17 compared to 1.46 MnT in Oct’17. Out of 1.73 MnT iron ore procured in Nov’17, share of NMDC was (54%) followed by Vedanta Ltd (24%) and remaining was of private miners (22%). Out of 1.73 MnT iron ore sourced, 1.34 MnT was fines and 0.39 MnT was lump.
Iron ore Procurement from Odisha merchant mines stable in Nov’17 – JSW Steel stable in iron ore sourcing to 0.54 MnT in Nov’17 against same quantity in Oct’17. Majority of iron ore sourced from Odisha was from Rungta Mines and Serajuddin.
Steel makers iron ore procurement from Jharkhand remained stable at 0.06 MnT in Nov’17 against the same quantity procured in last month Oct’17.
