Japan’s Coal Import Up By 8% in Sep’16

Japan, the world’s third largest coal importers, has imported 17.1 MnT in Sep’16. The country’s total monthly imports increased by 8% on monthly basis. While yearly imports up by 0.3% which was at 17 MnT in Sep’15.

In the month of Sep’16, out of the total import, the country imported 11.9 MnT Bituminous, 3.4 MnT coking and about 0.7 MnT coke & anthracite.

Japan’s coal imports, including Bituminous, Coking, Anthracite, Coke, Pet coke and other grades. In the first nine months of 2016(Jan’16-Sep’16), the coal imports is down by 2% to 145.4 MnT, compared with the same period in 2016.

Major exporting countries in Sep’16

Australia was the largest supplier to Japan in Sep’16, shipped about 10.9 MnT coal with a remarkable growth of 21.6% compared with Aug’16 and also rise by 7% on yearly basis.

Moreover Australia caters more than 60% share of the total coal imports of Japan. Also recorded as top supplied about 89.7 MnT coal over Jan’16-Sep’16.

Indonesia, the second-largest coal exporter to Japan, exported about 2.3 MnT coal in Sep’16 with a remarkable downfall of 24% M-o-M. While yearly exports has noted a fall of 18.6% which was 2.8 MnT in Sep’15.

Russia, the third largest coal exporter to Japan, shipped around 1.6 MnT coal in during the month, up by 8.6% M-o-M and declined by 8.5% Y-o-Y.
