Japan: Tokyo Steel Makes 2nd Price Cut in Scrap Purchase in a Week’s Time 

Prices of special grade scrap at Utsunomiya factory has come down by JPY 2500/MT (USD 23) since 25th Jan’20.

Tokyo Steel- Japan’s leading EAF mini-mill has lowered its scrap purchase price further by JPY 1000/MT (USD 9) at it’s Kyushu Factory and Utsunomiya factory, while prices have been cut by JPY 500/MT (USD 5) at other remaining works.

Notably, this is the second price cut made by the company within 2 days and fifth consecutive price cuts in a row since late Jan’20. The new prices for all grades shall be effective from tomorrow (6th Feb’20).

After the said price cut, the company will pay JPY 22,500/MT (USD 206) for H2 scrap delivered at Tahara plant in the central region and for Kyushu Factory in the western region and Utsunomiya located in the Kanto region prices will be JPY 22000/MT (USD 201) each.

For Okayama plant and Takamatsu Steel Center, the new price for H2 scrap will be JPY 21,000 /MT (USD 192) and JPY 20,000/MT (USD 183) levels respectively.
