One of the world’s largest metals exporters, Japan, has recently released stainless steel scrap export figures for August 2022, which inched down by 21% over the previous month, as per customs data.
Japan’s stainless steel scrap exports were recorded at 18,447 t in August, a fall of 21% as against 23,480 t in July.
Exports scenario
Stainless steel finished flats exports fall: Finished flats stainless steel exports stood at 31,525 t in the month under review, a sharp decrease of 26% m-o-m against 42,775 t in the previous month.
Thailand was the largest importer with 6,280 t followed by South Korea with 5,138 t.

Finished longs stainless steel exports edge down: Finished longs stainless steel exports stood at 8,610 t in the August, a decrease of 25% m-o-m against 11,482 t in the previous month.
China was the largest importer with 2,925 t followed by South Korea with 1,792 t.
Imports of finished products
Finished flats imports fall: The finished flats (stainless steel) imports stood at 21,910 t in the month under review, a decrease of 23% m-o-m against 28,501 t in the previous month.
South Korea was the largest exporter with 8,192 t followed by China with 6,741 t.
Stainless steel finished longs imports fall: Finished longs (stainless steel) imports stood at 1,742 t in the August, a decrease of 34% m-o-m against 2,639 t in the previous month.
South Korea was the largest exporter with 719 t followed by Taiwan with 384 t.
