Japan: JFE Steel reduces carbon emissions by increasing scrap usage

  • Japanese steel giant JFE Steel has reduced carbon emissions by boosting the usage of scrap in convertors through the eco-friendly double-slag refining process (DRP), as per SteelDaily reports.
  • By implementing DRP, the hot metal ratio can be adjusted to 82% from 90%.
  • The company is pushing for a reduction of about 170,000 tonnes of CO2 per year and also working on numerous other technologies that would have a low environmental impact.
