According to the latest customs data, Japan flat steel imports which includes 7208 (HR coils /Plates), 7209 (CR coils), 7225 (Electrical sheets), 7210/7212(GP/GC) have rose marginally by 0.47%,M-o-M basis to 4.27 MnT in 2016 as compared to 4.25 MnT in 2015.
If monthly comparison is made, then nation’s flat steel imports moved down significantly by 15% to 0.34 MnT in Dec’16 against previous month. In Nov’16 the same stood at 0.4 MnT
On yearly basis, Japan’s flat steel imports slumped by 13% in Dec’16 as compared to Dec’15 and the same stood at 0.39 MnT.
Grade-Wise Japan Flat Steel Imports-
As per grade-wise analysis , 7208 imports declined by 11.9% M-o-M in Dec’16 against Nov’16 whereas 7209 also move down by 27.74% in Dec’16 against previous month. On the similar lines, other flat steel grades imports like 7212 and 7210 declined in Dec’16 as compared to Nov’16.Grade 7225 showed the hike of 55.67% in Dec’16.

Country-Wise Japan Flat Steel Imports in 2016
Korea stood as the major flat steel exporter to Japan and exported 27,04,428 MT in 2016.Other major countries in 2016 include Taiwan at 9,26,805 MT and China at 6,20,703 MT
