–World’s largest iron ore exporter -Australia observed a fall 1% Y-o-Y from 839.5 MnT in CY18 to 829.8 MnTin CY19. Shipments were negatively impacted by cyclones, weather and operational challenges in west Australia in H1 CY19
–Brazil exports fell by 13% Y-o-Y from 355.81 MnT in CY’18 to 310 MnT in CY’19. Shipments fell amid Vale’s Brumadinho dam disaster in Jan’19.
–Whereas, Canada, South Africa and India observed a rise in their export volumes in 2019 led by: India (up – 79%), Canada (up – 8%), and South Africa (up – 6%) Y-o-Y.
–In terms of import value, China is the by far largest importer of iron ore.
