Indonesia: Krakatau Steel to Increase Production Capacity to 10 MnT pa

Indonesia’s Krakatau Steel plans to expand its production capacity to 10 MnT pa by 2025. It cited POSCO and NSSMC as possible joint venture options.

In response to growing demand, Krakatau Steel said it will increase its production capacity from 6 MnT pa to 10 MnT pa by 2025 through mergers or acquisitions.

Industry officials said Krakatau Steel cooperated with POSCO to establish Krakatau POSCO, which operates a blast furnace, steel plate & slab factory with capacity of 3 MnT. POSCO & NSSMC are also collaborating with NSSMC in Japan. “The possibility of POSCO’s joint venture is low”, they added.

PT Krakatau Steel has five business segments including: steel products, industrial estates and hotels, engineering and construction, port management services, and other services.

The company engages in the production and sale of various steel products, including hot rolled steel, cold rolled steel, wire rods, steel pipes, steel profiles and reinforcements, as well as related services such as coating and tolling.
