India’s thermal coal imports fall by 16%, m-o-m, in Jan’22

Amid fast-rising thermal coal prices in Jan’22, India’s imports fell by 16% m-o-m to 7.3 mnt, Customs data shows. Imports from Indonesia fell by 33% m-o-m to 2.8 mnt due to the coal export ban in that country which was subsequently relaxed. Global thermal coal prices rose by an average 35% m-o-m in Jan’22.
