State-wise pet coke sales

Rajasthan maintained its position as the state with the highest domestic sales in May, the reason being the highest concentration of cement plants in the state.

On a cumulative basis in April-May 2022, Andhra Pradesh recorded the highest growth at 85%, followed by Tamil Nadu at 64%.

India’s pet coke imports

As per Coalmint data, India’s imports of pet coke in May increased by 10% m-o-m to 0.78 mnt. Before the onset of monsoons, India’s cement industry stocks up raw material to avoid disruption in the production process.

Pet coke imports in India are monitored by the Director General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) and are allowed by select industries such as cement, lime kilns, calcium carbide and gasification.

Short-term outlook

In the near-term, India’s pet coke production may decline as construction activities take a halt with the onset of monsoon and cement demand falls. For the same reason, the country’s pet coke imports may also edge lower.
