India’s coal production increased 28% y-o-y to 66.15 mnt in Apr’22 compared to 51.62 mnt in Apr’21. However, production saw a steep decline of 31% m-o-m from 95.76 mnt in Mar’22, as the coal companies had lowered their output in view of the surplus inventory accumulated at the mines. Out of the total production, the contribution of Coal India was 53.47 mnt while Singareni Collieries Company produced 5.32 mnt. The remaining 7.36 mnt came from a mixed bag of captive and merchant miners.
