Indian Scrap imports fall Month-on-Month

Imported figures available with SteelMint show that Scrap
imports to India are declining MoM basis. India imported about 610,900MT of
Scrap in the month of January 2013 which decline to 502.600MT in February’13.
If we look at the 7 day’s figure available with us for March then also imported
figure registered a fall to 66,700MT.

made by India in the beginning of Current year 2013:

Ludhiana port – 142200MT
(Jan’13) v/s 115900MT (Feb’13)

Chennai Port- 120500MT
(Jan’13) v/s 126100MT (Feb’13)

JNPT Port-105900MT (Jan’13)
v/s 77600MT (Feb’13)        

MUNDRA Port – 21700MT (Jan’13)
v/s 28800MT (Feb’13)

VIZAG Port- 10700MT
(Jan’13) v/s 11600MT (Feb’13)

Traders believe that since India fetches less steel
subsidies, hence lower scarp imports is anticipated further in March’13.

In the Domestic market, there seems some
improvement in demand which lead to increase in prices in some major Indian cities
by Rs 100-200/MT. Increase in HMS 1&2 prices can be observed in Mandi Gobingarh
at Rs29800/MT (Incld all), Alang at Rs23200/MT (prices are basic, ED &
taxes extra), Kandla at Rs22600/MT (prices are basic, ED & taxes extra).
