Indian Ship Breaking Demolition Increases by 36% in Oct’16

The number of ships arriving for demolition in Alang (Gujrat) rose by 36% that is 30 ships in Oct’16 in contrast to 22 ships in Sep’16due to seasonal cyclic demand and rise in scrap prices in global market.

Total 30 ships have arrived to Alang, which were 22 ships in the month of Sep’16 and 21 ships in Aug’16. As per Oct’16 Total 2,73,624 LDT had arrived , while the total tonnage this  year till now is 29,27,911 LDT in comparison to 2015 that is 17,61,520 LDT.

There are still 5 ships in this month waiting for breaching and 2 vessel are expected to arrive.

Due to low price of sponge iron and steel prices in domestic market the Ship breaking prices in Indian market decreased by INR 100-1,100 /MT M-o-M and currently hovering in the range of INR 18,000-20,500/MT.

The imported scrap offers in the month of October increased by USD 30/MT M-o-M. Whereas , billet prices have decreased by INR 1,000/MT both in south and west India during this month.

Global Ship Breaking Price Sentiments

As per custom report, ship breaking trade in India uptick by USD 5/MT in week 45. However, Pakistan and Bangladesh remained stable as last week.

In India, prices are assessed at USD 265/lt Ldt for general cargo and USD 295/lt Ldt for tanker.
