The number of ships arriving for demolition in Alang (Gujurat) fell by about 17% to 15 ships in Jul’16 in contrast to 18 ships in Jun’16.
In Jul’16, total 15 ships have arrived to Alang, which was 18 ships in the month of Jun’16 and 17 ships in May’16. There are still 10 ships in this month waiting for breaching, but no vessels are expected to arrive.
Currently in Indian domestic market, ship breaking prices are hovering in the range of INR 15,500-18,900/MT; up by INR 200-600/MT within a month.
Imported scrap offers in the month of July moved down by USD 5-10/MT M-o-M. Similarly, billet prices have also fallen steeply by INR 650/MT in Mumbai during the month.
Global ship breaking price scenario
In week 30, prices remain firm due to increased sales activities. China’s offers moved up by USD 10/MT W-o-W. However, market remains almost stable.
In India, prices were assessed at USD 250/lt Ldt for general cargo and USD 280/lt Ldt for tanker.
