Indian Petcoke Prices Jump INR 100/MT on Shortages, Active Demand

Petcoke prices in India have gone up by INR 100/MT with the onset of Jun’17.

Responding to the demand and the prevalence of shortage in the country, Indian refineries have hiked their ex-works Petcoke prices.

Reliance Industries Limited, the largest Petcoke producer in the country, has raised its ex-works price by INR 100/MT to INR 7,250/MT, with effect from 1Jan’17. Essar, the country’s second largest producer, also has hiked, with effect from the same date, its ex-works price by the same amount to INR 7,245/MT.

Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL) also has raised its ex-works prices for the material by INR 59/MT with effect from 1Jun’17. MRPL has set an ex-works price of INR 6,239/MT for customers outside the Karnataka state; and for customers within the state, the ex-works price is quoted at INR 6,139/MT.

On the other hand, offers from the key international markets have undergone marginal downslides. Market participants attribute the retreat in the offers to import demand getting lower in China.

The latest offers for Petcoke (6.5% Sulphur) from USA are assessed lower at around USD 95/MT CFR India. In a similar trend, the recent offers for Petcoke (9% Sulphur) from Saudi Arabia are assessed down at around USD 92/MT CFR India.

Offers from both the regions are lower by around USD 2/MT than that in the preceding week.
