Pellet movement through railways has increased by 20% in July’15 as compared to June’15, as sponge makers prefered pellets over lumps. In July’15, total 242,550 MT pellets were transported through 63 rakes.
There is consistent increase in pellet movement starting FY16. Since, the period between Apr-July is a monsoon period and iron lump may contain more moisture, sponge makers are preferring pellet over lump. This could be the reason for consistent increase in pellet rake movement for the above mentioned period.
Jindal Steel & Power Ltd, a major supplier of pellets in merchant market and having pellet capacity of 9 MnT, supplied 27 rakes i.e. 103,950 MT pellet in July’15 against 19 rakes i.e. 73,150 MT pellet in June’15. Out of the total quantity supplied, 19,250 MT was supplied to Super Smelters, 11,550 MT pellet to Topworth Steel & Power & 11,550 MT to Prakash Industries.
Another major merchant supplier in Odisha, Arya Iron & Steel, having a capacity of 1.2 MnT, supplied total 15 rakes i.e. 57,750 MT pellet in July’15.
