Indian Iron Ore Movement Stable in Sep’19

As per SteelMint’s analysis, iron ore movement across major producing states of the country recorded at 10.31 MnT (excluding exports) in Sep’19 stable M-o-M. The figures are compiled on the basis of movements made via railways, trucks, and Karnataka and import data as per customs. The figures exclude the captive iron ore movement of SAIL & Tata Steel and movement for exports.

State-wise iron ore movement analysis:

Odisha iron ore dispatches up 7% in Sep’19

Odisha- India’s largest iron ore producing state recorded total iron ore dispatches at 6.97 MnT in Sep’19, as against 6.50 MnT in Aug’19. The figures exclude movement for export and dispatches of miners- SAIL & Tata Steel.

Rungta Mines, India’s largest private merchant miner, dispatched the iron ore at 2 MnT in Sep’19, up 23% as against 1.63 MnT a month ago.

Iron ore dispatches from C.G up 20% in Sep’19

Iron ore dispatches from Chhattisgarh recorded at 1.11 MnT iron ore in Sep’19, up 20% as against 0.92 MnT in Aug’19.

NMDC (Chhattisgarh) supplied total of 190 rakes (0.73 MnT) of iron ore in the month of Sep’19, up 12% against 169 rakes (0.65 MnT) a month before in Aug’19, according to railway movement data maintained with SteelMint.

On 19th Sep, NMDC Ltd announced cut in its iron ore fines and lumps by INR 200/MT and in DR-CLO INR 230/MT. Prior to this the company had lowered prices by same quantum on 21 Aug’19.

Karnataka iron ore E-auction sales dropped 25% for the month

Karnataka iron ore e-auction sales volume has registered decline by 25% in the month of Sept’19. Total iron ore allotted quantity was recorded at 1.91 MnT in Sept’19 compared to 2.54 MnT in Aug’19.

NMDC was the largest iron ore supplier via Karnataka e-auction, sold 0.42 MnT iron ore via e-auctions in Sep’19, down by 26% M-o-M against 0.57 MnT last month. Out of the total quantity sold by NMDC via e-auction, around 68% of material purchased by JSW steel and rest 32% by others.

Indian iron ore imports stood nil for the month

Indian iron ore imports were reported nil in Sept’19, according to the data maintained by SteelMint. The imports have recorded nil for second consecutive month. Indian iron ore imports in July’19 stood at 51,470 MT.

Indian iron ore exports volumes down 48% in Sep’19

Indian iron ore export shipments in Sep’19 were recorded at 1.14 MnT, down 48% as against 2.20 MnT in Aug’19. The volume fell amid high Chinese port inventories, falling Chinese demand, and impact of monsoon on production.

Indian pellet exports down 22% in Sep’19

According to data maintained with SteelMint, Indian pellet export volumes in Sep’19 were recorded at 1.11 MnT, down 22% on monthly basis as against 1.42 MnT a month ago. Indian pellet exports dropped amid Chinese mills preference for domestic lumps and pellets.
