As per the recent data maintained by SteelMint, the ferrous scrap imports by India during the month of Dec’16 increased 55% owing to increase in bulk shipment.
The country’s total scrap imports during Dec’16 amounted to 470,490 MT. The imports were increased by 55% as compared to Nov’16, which were recorded at 303,300 MT. Indian Scrap Imports for a period of Jan-Dec’16 totaled 5,355,990 MT.
During Dec’16, UK was the largest scrap exporter to India. The scrap imports from UK totaled 106,130 MT, accounting for more than 22% of the country’s total scrap imports.
The second largest exporter of scrap to India was USA and it totaled to 62,680 MT. In third place was South Africa with supply volume of 35,580 MT.
