Indian DRI, billet, rebar update – 5 Aug

India’s induction furnace (IF) steel market witnessed mixed trends today and mill offers fluctuated in the range of INR 100-400/tonne (t) d-o-d across regions on 5 August 2025.

Sponge iron offers dropped INR 100-350/t d-o-d, with a major fall of INR 350/t observed in the Durgapur market.

Billet tags decreased by INR 100-250/t d-o-d except in Mumbai where prices increased by INR 200/t.

Rebar (Fe 500) tags showed variations of INR 100-300/t d-o-d. Prices were stable in most markets except in Mumbai where prices edged up by INR 400/t.

Today, the market witnessed a lack of fresh buying enquiries amid elevated price levels. Procurement activity remained limited and largely need-based, as buyers had already engaged in significant transactions over the past few days, especially in the finished segments. According to market participants, prices are expected to hover within a narrow range in the short term.
