Indian DRI, billet, rebar update – 4 Aug

  • Prices rise on active buying in past few days
  • Spot market sees moderate trading activity

India’s induction furnace (IF) steel market witnessed active buying today, and mills increased offers by INR 50-700/tonne (t) d-o-d on 4 August 2025.

Sponge iron offers rose by INR 100-300/t d-o-d, with the sharpest rise of INR 300/t in the Durgapur, Hyderabad, and Raigarh markets.

Billet tags increased by INR 50-500/t d-o-d, with the steepest hike of INR 500/t seen in most of the major markets, such as Hyderabad, Chennai, Raigarh, Ahmedabad and Rourkela.

Rebar (Fe 500) tags moved up by INR 200-700/t d-o-d. Prices increased the highest in Jalna, by INR 700/t.

Today, moderate trading activity was observed in the spot market. Active buying in the past couple of days, with mills receiving hefty bookings, supported today’s price hikes. Going by the current scenario, prices are likely to remain strong, though a lot will also depend on prevailing market dynamics.
