Odisha contributes almost entirely towards chrome ore production in India. Chrome ore production in Odisha has been recorded at 529,921 MT in Dec’16. It is about 78% above the production witnessed in Nov’16.
Production by the captive miners have increased by 18% M-o-M. FACOR marks a substantial 77% increase in production, from Nov’16. On the other hand Jindal Stainless witnessed a huge increase of 192% M-o-M in its production summing up to 12,910 MT in Dec’16 against 4,425 MT in Nov’16. IMFA also contributed significantly towards captive production in contrast to Balasore Alloys and IDICOL, which witnessed decrease in its production.
TATA Steel, one of the largest merchant miners in the country, recorded an increase of 40% in production. Whereas, O.M.C. registered a mammoth increase of 305% in its production in Dec’16. B.C. Mohanty & Sons and Saruabil Chromite Mines also contributed significantly towards the increase of Chrome Ore production in Dec’16.
