Indian Chrome Ore Production Rose Substantially in May’18

Odisha contributes almost entirely towards chrome ore production in India. Chrome ore production in Odisha has been recorded at 492,942 MT in May’18. It is about 50% higher than the production witnessed in Apr’18.

Production level by captive miners went up by 9% M-o-M. FACOR witnessed a decrease of 8% on a monthly basis while Balasore Alloys and IDCOL registered a drop in production levels by 10% and 20% respectively. IMFA and Tata Steel, however, witnessed an increase of 21% and 13% respectively on monthly basis.

OMC registered a mammoth increase in its production at 145,050 MT in May’18 against 4,300 MT in Apr’18. Saruabhil Chromite Mines also witnessed a marginal increase of 7% M-o-M in May’18, while B.C.Mohanthy & Sons and Real India Consultancy registered a fall in their production by 16% and 67% respectively in May’18.

The chrome ore production level has increased in May’18 following the seasonal pattern where miners have mined before the rainy season as water clogging in mines would make it difficult for them.
