Odisha contributes almost entirely towards chrome ore production in India. Chrome ore production in Odisha has been recorded at 327,921 MT in Apr’18. It is about 55% below the production witnessed in Mar’18.
Production level by captive miners went down by 9% M-o-M. FACOR witnessed a substantial decrease of 23% on a monthly basis while IMFA and IDCOL registered a drop in production levels by 58% and 50% respectively. Balasore Alloys and Tata Steel, however, witnessed an increase of 7% and 14% respectively on monthly basis.
OMC registered a massive decrease of 99% M-o-M in its production, recorded at 4,300 MT in Apr’18 against 421,073 MT in Mar’18. The quantity in Apr’18 was the closing stock of FY18 as OMC could not analyze the commodity as per its grade within the given timeframe and hence it is not reflecting in the production figures for the month.
Sourabhil Chromite Mines witnessed a mammoth increase in its production in Apr’18 at 45,910 MT against 550 MT in Mar’18, while B.C. Mohanty & Sons registered an increase of 5% M-o-M.
The low production of Chrome Ore in the month of April’18 could be attributed to the lackluster of Ferro Chrome market.
