Odisha contributes almost entirely towards chrome ore production in India. Chrome ore production in Odisha has been recorded at 2, 94,780 MT in May’17. It is about 17% below the production witnessed in Apr’17.
Production by captive miners have decreased substantially by 34% M-o-M. Balasore Alloys witnessed a substantial decrease of around 38% in its production and Jindal Stainless recorded a decrease of 54% production on M-o-M basis. IMFA on the other hand had no production in May’17 for two of its mines were suspended in course of routine inspection as it violated the norms of air and water pollution. IDCOL and FACOR registered an increase in their production by massive 153% and 83% M-o-M.
TATA Steel, one of the largest merchant miners in the country, registered a fall of 16% in its production. OMC on the other hand, witnessed a massive increase of 92% in its production in May’17.
