- Tight supply and limited spot availability supported higher prices
- Strong downstream demand drove aggressive buyer participation
SAIL Bhilai’s crude coal tar auction held on 4 June 2026 witnessed strong participation, with the entire offered quantity of 1,509 t sold at a weighted average price of INR 59,450/t. Prices increased significantly compared to the previous auction, supported by tight supply availability, limited spot market volumes, and sustained demand from downstream consumers. Market participants noted that rising procurement requirements and constrained material availability prompted buyers to bid more aggressively. The result follows the successful auction conducted on 25 May 2026, where the full offered quantity of 1,995 t was sold at average prices of around INR 54,000-55,000/t, indicating a firm upward trend in domestic crude coal tar prices.
